The mainstays of treatment for ocular rosacea include eyelash hygiene and oral Omega 3 supplementation. Apply a warm compress and cleanse the eyelashes up to twice daily with baby shampoo using a wet washcloth on the eyelashes with eyes closed.
Antibiotic ointment may be used to decrease bacteria, soften crusting material and help with inflammation in the eye area.
Oral antibiotics may also be prescribed.
Those with severe ocular rosacea are referred to an eye specialist. Any ulceration of the cornea, inflammation or red eye should immediately be referred to an ophthalmologist because it may result in reduced vision.
